E-pharmacy
Banner Health's e-pharmacy program helps its smaller, rural hospitals have pharmacists around the clock to strengthen medical care.
Under Banner's e-pharmacy system, North Colorado Medical Center pharmacists provide coverage to eight other facilities during evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
The e-pharmacy system processes between 8,000 and 9,000 orders per month.
Through secure Banner network, North Colorado pharmacists can see orders written by providers working in hospitals as far away as Nebraska or Wyoming. The Colorado pharmacists review the orders, compare them to a patient’s current medication profile and determine if they are right for that patient. The system provides a independent double-check by a second practitioner before a patient receives their medication.
They also can enter the orders into Banner's electronic medical records so that bedside nurses can review them.
The remote pharmacists also answer drug information questions and consult with nurses and physicians and are seen as valuable team members.
