STERLING, Colo. (Aug. 28, 2009)  — The results are in from this year’s Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign, and it looks like everyone wins.
No, we’re not talking about the rodeo; we’re talking about what it has done for the community.

Thursday, members of the Logan County Fair Board presented Sterling Regional MedCenter with a check for $2,930 raised by the Friday night PRCA rodeo at this year’s fair. That money will be used to help local uninsured or underinsured women receive free mammograms.

According to Ken Meis, the donation includes $1 from each of the 1,730 tickets sold to the Tough Enough to Wear Pink rodeo. It also includes donations from local businesses for the Ride for the Cure on a pink bull in the following amounts: Rick Jackson of Jackson Insurance Agency, $500; H & R Tire owned by Henery Rosas, $500; Rod Schieffer Insurance Company, $100. The final $100 was from winnings signed over by a rough stock rider who wore pink during his ride, Meis said.

As an additional fundraiser, SRM sells pink shirts, hats and other accessories. Kayedeane Samber of SRM said this year’s sales are at about $9,000. She added that there are just a handful of shirts still available; those interested can stop by the hospital or call 521-5396.
