SUN CITY, Ariz. (Aug. 26, 2009) --During a time when government leaders regretfully cut social services, Maricopa County Supervisor Max Wilson decided to personally make up some of the difference.

On Wednesday, Wilson donated a year's worth of his salary, $43,000, to a Sun City non-profit senior center. Wilson says the amount represents his net salary after taxes.

"The golden years are also very hard years for a lot of people," Wilson said.

The Banner Olive Branch Senior Center relies on grants and donations to operate. It provides to seniors meals, food boxes and a gathering place to socialize. The center recently lost half of its county funds due to the economic crisis, said Ivy Shirley, director of the center.

"What this says is that Max really cares about people and he wants to see the good services here continue," Shirley said.
