MESA, Ariz. (Sept. 24, 2009) --There will be shorter wait-times to see a doctor, spacious private rooms and additional parking spaces for visitors.
Banner Baywood Medical Center's new $38 million state-of-the-art emergency department opens for business at 5:30 a.m. Oct. 1.
Located on the southern side of the hospital, the modern 52,000-square-foot facility will offer 58 private rooms, each with a flat screen television; a two-bed resuscitation area; private entrance for paramedic and ambulances; and the department's own imaging and X-ray room.
Here are five things you should know about the new emergency department.
Why a new emergency department?
Frank Benes, medical director of the hospital's emergency department, said more hospital associations are measuring patient satisfaction and have not been satisfied with past trends.
"If you're comfortable in your surroundings and you feel good about what's happening to you and feel good about the care, it helps in your recovery," he said.
