MESA, Ariz. (May 21, 2008) – With Memorial Day right around the corner, Banner Baywood Medical Center and Banner Heart Hospital will start the weekend right with a patriotic ceremony on Thursday, May 22.
Memorial Day Celebration on the Banner Baywood campus:
- When: Thursday, May 22, 10:30 a.m.
- Where: The flag pole in front of Banner Baywood Medical Center,
6644 E. Baywood Ave., Mesa, AZ
The proceedings start with a performance of the National Anthem by Mesa-based group Heritage Quartet, followed by a prayer by Chaplain Lowell Downey. Banner Baywood CEO Don Evans and Banner Heart Hospital CEO John Harrington will both address the crowd, which will be composed of staff members, visitors, patients and volunteers. A special invitation has been extended to military veterans.
The celebration is just one of the steps the hospitals have taken this month to commemorate Memorial Day. Throughout the month of May, remembrance books have been placed in the waiting areas at the hospitals for written dedications to loved ones who have served in the military. Staff members at the hospitals also have been collecting items to send to military units in Iraq and Afghanistan. The hospitals plan to participate in a national moment of silence at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day, May 26.
