Free Peoria seminar Oct. 27 highlights advances in breast cancer imaging
SUN CITY, Ariz. (Oct. 8, 2009) – Learn about the latest advancements in breast cancer imaging technologies at a free seminar on Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Rio Vista Recreation Center in Peoria, 8866 W. Thunderbird Road, inside Rio Vista Community Park. Pre-register by calling (623) 773-8600.
Interventional radiologist Steven Charney, MD, medical director of Banner Boswell Medical Imaging, and Ann Schwartz, R.T. (M), clinical coordinator of Banner Boswell Women’s Diagnostic Services, will address the latest improvements in the early detection of breast cancer and preview what’s on the horizon.
Each year, more than 192,000 women are diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, and 40,000 women die of the disease. Early detection is the key to a cure or an increase in the survival rate of a disease that strikes one in eight women sometime in their lives.
“I encourage women to become empowered about their breast health. Rather than fear the disease, ask questions and make sure you get answers to your questions,” said Dr. Charney. “Becoming an advocate for your own health and participating in recommended screenings such as regular mammograms are some of the easiest ways to ensure your health.”
Banner Boswell Medical Center and Rio Vista Recreation Center are partners in offering free health education seminars to the community the fourth Tuesday each month and a variety of healthy events throughout the year.
