Banner Boswell seminar Nov. 24 offers tips on healthy holiday eating
SUN CITY, Ariz. (Nov. 4, 2009) – Learn how to stick to a healthy diet during the holidays without sacrificing the flavor and fun of the season at a free seminar on Tuesday, Nov. 24 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Rio Vista Recreation Center in Peoria, 8866 W. Thunderbird Road, inside Rio Vista Community Park. Pre-register by calling (623) 773-8600.
Registered dietitian Shannon Parnett, clinical nutrition senior manager at Banner Boswell Medical Center, will explain how to make simple changes in your habits that will allow you to still indulge in the foods that you love and avoid the holiday bulge.
“The holiday season is a time to celebrate with your family and friends. But for some, it also becomes a time for overeating and weight gain,” Parnett said. “The average person can gain about one to two pounds per year during the holidays. Over the years this can really add up!”
A sneak-peak of some of Parnett’s tips: “Try using applesauce in place of oil in your favorite holiday breads. Use egg substitutes or egg whites in place of whole eggs. Try plain, nonfat yogurt in place of sour cream. And, whatever you do, don’t make your New Year’s resolution to diet!"
Banner Boswell Medical Center and Rio Vista Recreation Center are partners in offering free health education seminars to the community the fourth Tuesday each month and a variety of healthy events throughout the year.
