Banner Health to celebrate completion of steel structure

Topping Out ceremony is significant milestone for new Fort Collins hospital

FORT COLLINS, CO (March 12, 2014) — Banner Health and contractor JE Dunn Construction will hold a topping out ceremony Friday, March 14 in celebration of the completion of the last piece of structural steel for the new Banner Fort Collins Medical Center.

Representatives of Banner Health, JE Dunn Construction, and Boulder Associates Architects will be on hand to commemorate the construction milestone.

“Completion of the steel infrastructure is an important event in any project of this magnitude,” said Rick Sutton, CEO of Banner Health in Northern Colorado. “It is a visible sign of our progress and brings us one step closer to completion.”

An American flag will be temporarily placed on a beam and raised atop the steel structure, along with a  tree that symbolizes the life and growth of the building, and respect for the natural resources contributing to the project.

Attendees will take turns signing a beam that will be permanently placed at another location in the building.

“We are honored to be a part of this significant northern Colorado project,” said Bob Latas, vice president for JE Dunn Construction.  “The placement of this beam representing the completion of the steel structure truly represents the strong framework of our team from owner to architect to contractor.”

The Topping Out ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, March 14 at the construction site on the southeast corner of Harmony Road and Lady Moon Drive in Fort Collins.

Banner Fort Collins Medical Center will be a full-service acute care hospital with 24 inpatient beds, an Emergency department, labor and delivery rooms, medical imaging, surgical services, lab and pharmacy services and an outpatient specialty clinic. A medical office building is also planned for the site. Future growth of the master-planned campus will be based on demand.

Construction and activation of the hospital remains on schedule for an April 2015 opening.
