Banner Sun Health Research Institute to host free screenings of HBO Alzheimer’s documentary
SUN CITY, Ariz. (Nov. 2, 2009) – In honor of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, Banner Sun Health Research Institute invites the community to a series of special screenings featuring the four-part documentary film from HBO, "The Alzheimer's Project''. The weekly screenings will take place Monday Nov. 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Banner Sun Health Research Institute, 10515 W. Santa Fe Dr. in Sun City. Admission is free.
- Nov. 9, 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Momentum in Science Part 1
This film takes a close a close look at groundbreaking discoveries made by the country’s leading biomedical scientists as well as a look into the future of Alzheimer’s disease. - Nov. 16, 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Momentum in Science Part 2
This film takes an up-close and personal view of the current clinical research being conducted at the top Alzheimer’s research centers around the country. The film depicts a very personal side of patients and their families searching and receiving cutting edge Alzheimer’s treatment. - Nov. 23, 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Caregivers
This film looks at the lives of those who are in the trenches and often times suffering silently – the caregivers. Viewers will be exposed to the human and vulnerable side of those who love and care for person’s with Alzheimer’s disease. - Nov. 30, 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Grandpa, do you know who I am?
This film, narrated by Maria Shriver provides ways for people to understand the loss of memory and understand the experience is a part of life. This film features five portraits of parents and children facing their loved ones progressive illness. Shriver encourages people to learn more about the full and vibrant lives that their loved one lived before he or she was affected by Alzheimer’s, and remembers the life her own father lived before the disease.
Parts of this documentary series were filmed at Banner Sun Health Research Institute and features the faculty and ground-breaking Alzheimer’s research currently being conducted in Sun City Ariz.
Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S., affecting 5.3 million individuals and their families nationwide.
