Ask the experts – M. D. Anderson Cancer Center breast cancer experts
PHOENIX (Sept. 23, 2009) -- On Monday, Oct. 19th, from 10:30 a.m. to noon., three leading experts from M. D. Anderson will provide the most current information on breast cancer in a panel presentation at the Hilton Phoenix East/Mesa, 1011 W. Holmes in Mesa.
These special presentations on Oct. 19 are part of the Cancer Alert program that was announced along with the unveiling of the M. D. Anderson Banner Cancer Center last spring. Cancer Alert is designed to help people understand how they can make a positive difference in their own lives with respect to healthy behaviors and informed choices related to cancer.
The panel will feature breast cancer specialists in surgical oncology, medical oncology and prevention, including genetic counseling.
During the first hour, panelists will discuss their own research and professional experience, as well as that of others. Attendees will learn how breast cancer research advances helps prevention, more personalized therapies and more effective treatments. During the final half-hour, audience members can ask questions.
Kelly K. Hunt, MD, will discuss “Surgical options for early state breast cancer.” Dr. Hunt is chief of Surgical Breast Oncology in the department of Surgical Oncology at M. D. Anderson. She also is the Hamill Foundation Distinguished Professor of Surgery in Honor of Dr. Richard G. Martin, Sr.
Banu Arun, MD, will provide “An update on risk factors and genetic counseling for breast cancer.” Dr. Arun, a medical oncologist, is associate professor and co-medical director, Cancer Prevention Division in the department of Breast Medical Oncology at M. D. Anderson.
Marjorie Green, MD, will present “An update on medical treatments for breast cancer.” Dr. Green is an associate professor and associate medical director in the Nellie B. Connally Breast Center in M. D. Anderson’s department of Breast Medical Oncology.

About the M. D. Anderson Banner Cancer Center
The M. D. Anderson Banner Cancer Center will be constructed on the Banner Gateway campus. It will be anchored by a 120,000 square-foot cancer outpatient center and supported by 76 patient beds on two floors inside of Banner Gateway Medical Center. It is expected to open in 2011.
Services will include medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, pathology, laboratory, diagnostic imaging, as well as other supportive clinical services. M. D. Anderson will have clinical oversight for all aspects of care delivery.
