Free bilingual community member memory screenings
PHOENIX (Oct. 6, 2009) — Memory loss can affect anyone. Often, the aggravation of losing the car keys or the inability to recall the name of a familiar face can be attributed to a “senior moment.” But sometimes, memory impairment can be a warning sign of a serious health problem.
That’s why Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, Maryvale Community Center and the Phoenix Valle del Sol chapter of the Hispanic Nurses Association are teaming up to offer a community screening event for adults that are concerned about their memory. Attendees will receive a free memory screening consisting of a 10-minute memory check either in Spanish or English. Information about brain health will also be provided.
A variety of factors can cause memory and thinking problems. They range from reversible conditions like stress and depression to more serious ailments like stroke and Alzheimer’s disease. A memory screening isn’t a diagnostic test, but it can indicate whether a person should seek a more thorough exam.
Since its opening in 2006, the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute has screened more than 800 community participants. Reservations for memory screenings are required and can be made by calling (602) 839-6850.
