Steve Wille will be the guest speaker and is a member of the A1C Champions Program®, which provides a patient-led approach to diabetes education. This program is designed to give people hope, support and encouragement toward successfully managing their diabetes. Wille will talk about his diabetes, his insulin treatments and how he also controls his disease through diet, exercise and other medications.
Wille will also talk about insulin and how diabetics can achieve blood sugar control as part of an overall treatment plan, the concerns he had about starting insulin and misperceptions about insulin. At the session, participants will also find out why they may want to talk to their doctor about whether insulin is right for them.
Diabetes is a chronic, widespread condition characterized by high blood sugar where the body does not produce or properly use insulin, the hormone needed to carry glucose (sugar) from the blood into the cells of the body for energy. About 26 million people in the United States have diabetes, including an estimated 7 million who remain undiagnosed.
