McKee Medical Center Turkey Trot issues middle school challenge
LOVELAND, Colo. (Oct. 26, 2009) – The Loveland or Berthoud middle school that has the most participants in the 2009 Turkey Trot at McKee Medical Center is in for an early Christmas present: a $250 grant courtesy of the McKee Medical Center Foundation.
The foundation, which organizes the annual 5K Thanksgiving Day race, has challenged six middle schools to compete and see which school can send the most runners to this year’s race. The schools are Bill Reed, Conrad Ball, Lucille Erwin, New Vision Charter, Turner and Walt Clark middle schools.
The winning school will receive the grant, which can be used for a health or wellness-related purpose, said Dawn Paepke, McKee Medical Center Foundation events coordinator.
Race fees and sponsorship contributions benefit the Banner Simulation System at McKee Medical Center.
The race on Nov. 26 begins on Hoffman Drive just north of McKee Medical Center and proceeds north to 37th Street to the bike path at Boyd Lake. It then turns south and heads back to 18th Street where it finishes at McKee Medical Center. This route is wide open and beautiful, offering a great run for more than 1,200 Loveland residents who value fitness and family time before the big feast. The Turkey Trot is a 3.1-mile run/walk.
The 5K race begins at 8:30 a.m. with the Free Kids Gobbler Trek starting at 8 a.m. The Gobbler Trek is a short fun run around the wellness walk of the hospital.
