NCMC Bloodmobile tours available at United Way ‘Palooza in the Park’
GREELEY, Colo. (Sept. 3, 2009) —North Colorado Medical Center’s Bloodmobile will be open for tours during Palooza in the Park – the United Way of Weld County’s community campaign kickoff – on Friday, Sept. 11. Tours will be available from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in Lincoln Park in downtown Greeley.
The bloodmobile has made 120 visits to area businesses to enable employees to donate blood this year. The bloodmobile has collected more than 2,750 units of blood. Donations from volunteer blood donors provide a live saving product. Blood cannot be reproduced in a lab, or by any other synthetic process, so donations are vital to the medical community. Volunteer blood donors also help in controlling health care costs. If NCMC had to purchase units of blood from another source, it would cost approximately $240 per unit purchased.
Statistics show that a blood product is required for medical patients around the country every three seconds. The demand for blood products is year-round, and only human donors can meet the demand.
Stop by the NCMC Bloodmobile during the United Way kickoff and see for yourself the safe and easy process to donate blood. If you are interested in scheduling the bloodmobile to visit your business, please contact the Blood Donor Center at (970) 350-6100.
