McKee Medical Center to move totobacco-free environment March 1, 2005
Loveland – On March 1, 2005, McKee Medical Center will become the first hospital in Northern Colorado to move to a totally tobacco-free environment. From that date forward, McKee will prohibit tobacco use by employees, volunteers, medical staff, patients and visitors on its campus at 2000 Boise Ave. or any of its other off-site facilities.
"Since opening in 1976, McKee has been committed to promoting healing and good health and providing the best healing environment for our patients," said Jeff Hauser, McKee associate administrator and chairman of the hospital's tobacco-free committee. "I'm proud that we are continuing to pioneer a higher standard. Our tobacco-free policy is one more step in our commitment to providing excellent patient care."
While this is an exciting step, hospital officials also recognize that this transition may be difficult for many individuals and are committed to supporting employees, visitors and patients. A number of aids will be available to assist those coming to McKee. Programs are also being implemented to provide assistance to employees and volunteers, as they make the transition to a tobacco-free environment.
