WASHINGTON (August 31, 2005) - The American Hospital Association (AHA) announced that Banner Health's Fairbanks Memorial Hospital/Denali+Center was awarded the Carolyn Boone Lewis Living the Vision award for their commitment to providing needed services and improving community health in ways that go beyond traditional hospital care.
This national award recognizes hospitals that are connected to the communities they serve and work diligently to raise the level of the community's health through innovative programs and partnerships. Since its inception in 1998, only 10 Living the Vision awards have been presented – and FMH/DC is the only hospital in Alaska to have ever received the award.
We would like to recognize employees, physicians, and staff for their roles and support in raising the level of care in the community. The award will be presented to Mike Powers, Fairbanks Memorial's administrator, by AHA chair elect, Rich Umbdenstock, at the Fairbanks Imaging Center open house and award celebration September 9th at 4 p.m.
"Fairbanks Memorial is committed to making Fairbanks a healthy community. Continuous work helps every individual reach their highest potential for health and gets to the heart of what health care is all about," said AHA president Dick Davidson. "Every day, Fairbanks Memorial makes it a priority to see how the community can be better served. It is this commitment and outreach, deep into the fabric of the community, that is being honored today."
Fairbanks Memorial Hospital is a community owned owned, 162-bed hospital. Highlighted services include emergency care, intensive care/critical care units (ICU/CCU), cancer treatment, outpatient imaging, mental health and cardiac rehabilitation. Denali Center is a 92-bed short- and long-term care center that is attached to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and Denali Center are leased by Banner Health. Phoenix-based Banner Health is one of the largest, nonprofit health care systems in the country. The system owns or manages 20 acute-care hospitals, long term care centers and an array of other services, including family clinics, home care services, a nursing registry and home medical equipment services, in seven states Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada and Wyoming.
