David R. Streitwieser, M.D., named BGSMC Chief of Staff

Elected by the hospital’s medical staff, Dr. Streitwieser will serve as chairman of the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee while continuing to care for patients.
Dr. Streitwieser earned his medical degree at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine in 1979. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Valley Medical Center in Fresno, Calif. He is a member and Life Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Arizona Medical Association.
Upon completing his residency in 1982, Dr. Streitwieser joined Banner Good Samaritan’s Emergency Department, becoming a co-director in 1984. He has been the Vice Chief of Staff since 2005, Secretary/Treasurer from 2003-’04 and has chaired several medical committees including the Credentials, Emergency Medicine and Pharmacy & Therapeutics committees.
Dr. Streitwieser also serves as medical director for MedAire, Inc., which operates the MedLink Global Response Center at Banner Good Samaritan, and as assistant medical director for PHI Air-Evac Services, Inc.
Dr. Streitwieser succeeds outgoing Chief of Staff Harry S. Tamm, M.D., a neurologist with Phoenix Neurological Associates. Corey L. Detlefs, M.D., a trauma surgeon with Banner Good Samaritan, is the vice Chief of Staff. Oncologist David M. Paul, M.D., will serve as Secretary/Treasurer for the 2007-’08 term.
