Baywood campus names new administrator
MESA, Ariz. (Aug. 14, 2008) -- Sometimes, all it takes to make a difference in people’s lives is changing the color of the paint on the wall. That’s Chad Hatfield’s philosophy.
“Little stuff is all it takes to make a difference in people’s lives,” he said.
Hatfield, 34, will join Banner Health on Aug. 19 as associate administrator for both Banner Heart Hospital and Banner Baywood Medical Center. And though he won’t do any hands-on patient care, he hopes he will be a resource for those who do.
“By being a resource to them, I can help them do the best they can do,” he said. “And hopefully make life easy. Life’s stressful enough.”
Hatfield brings years of health care experience to Banner, most recently as director of operations at Phoenix Baptist Hospital. There, he was responsible for the laboratory, diagnostic imaging, cardiology, inpatient rehab, outpatient therapy, the wound care clinic, facilities, security, volunteers and food services. Hatfield also spent seven years in the long-term care field as a facility administrator.
Hatfield said he relies heavily on the directors of each department because "they’re the experts."
“The food service staff definitely doesn’t want me in the kitchen. I’ve been there. They’re a lot quicker when I’m not on the tray line,” he said. “And I’m not a good cook.”
He came to Banner because of its focus on patient care and applying its resources in the areas that make the biggest difference.
“I’m excited to get involved in an organization that’s growing and has a bright future,” he said. The Baywood campus specifically was attractive because of its location in a growing area, its focus on clinical research and its comprehensive stroke program.
Hatfield is a West Virginia native with a masters degree in Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University-Medical College and a bachelor’s in Health Services Administration from West Virginia University Institute of Technology.
Hatfield and his wife have two dogs and a cat and enjoy camping, hiking and fishing. He also enjoys cycling and road racing, and hits the bike about six days a week, he said.
