GREELEY, Colo.  (Nov. 7, 2008) — The Cancer Registrars at North Colorado Medical Center have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to improving the quality of cancer data collection and the quality of patient care.

The NCMC Cancer Registry recently received a “Gold Award” from the State of Colorado Central Cancer Registry, marking the eighth consecutive year that NCMC Cancer Registry has been recognized at this level.

The role of a Cancer Registrar is multi-faceted and challenging, but increasingly important to cancer patients and their families. The Colorado Central Cancer Registry uses the information collected to educate on specific cancer risks, answer public questions, help to focus cancer control activities in the state, monitor the occurrence of cancer, aid in research studies, monitor the effectiveness of treatment and help develop health services and screening programs.

In addition, the Cancer Registries play a crucial role in supporting the Cancer Program at NCMC.

This award is given to select cancer registries within the State of Colorado for outstanding quality of work performed, timeliness of reporting data and accuracy of work. This award marks excellence in cancer registry, and demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the cancer registry staff at NCMC.

The award for registry was announced at the Colorado Cancer Registrars’ State Meeting at NCMC on Sept. 26. More than 85 Cancer Registrars and associates attended the state and regional meeting, hosted by the NCMC Cancer Program.
