Banner Gateway Medical Center Women’s Unit Ranked Number Two in Nation for Patient Satisfaction

GILBERT (March 7, 2008)  – Banner Gateway Medical Center’s Women & Infants’ unit has been ranked second in the country by their patients for their likelihood to recommend the hospital.

The results came from a survey administered by NRC Picker, a national corporation that measures patient perceptions in more than 500 hospitals across the country and the world.

“At NRC Picker, we are thrilled that Banner Gateway Medical Center is a top performer!  With 94.44 percent of patients from their Women and Infants’ unit willing to definitely recommend Banner Gateway in 2007, Banner Gateway outperformed all units in more than 500 hospitals nationwide to achieve top performer status,” said NRC Picker Account Director, Tammi Sufficool.

“The staff at Gateway does a tremendous job of creating a patient-centered environment for all of their patients.  We are proud to partner with them as we measure and improve what matters most to their patients.”

NRC Picker identified and measured the caregivers’ behaviors that patients believed to be the most important factors in their stays. "Liklihood to Recommend,” is a true gauge of a patient’s overall experience and is one of 27 questions hospitals across the country are asking when participating in the HCAHPS survey process. HCAHPS stands for Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems and is a standardized survey of hospital patients that captures patients’ unique perspectives on hospital care for the purpose of providing the public with comparable information on hospital quality.

“Since opening in September of 2007, our goal has been to provide patients and their families with the ultimate care experience,” says Kim Weston, RN, director of Women and Children’s Services at Banner Gateway Medical Center. “Our staff is family focused and highly skilled in the care of women during labor, delivery and recovery.” In fact, so far in 2008, 100 percent of Women and Infants’ patients have responded that they are willing to “definitely recommend” the hospital. This is the highest score a hospital can receive.

NRC Picker is a leader in measurement and improvement of the most important aspects of the patient experience and public reporting. Over the years, thousands of hospitals, clinics and health care providers have utilized NRC Picker’s expertise to measure and improve the patient experience.

Banner Gateway Medical Center opened in Gilbert in September 2007 at the southwest corner of Higley and the U.S. 60.  Banner Gateway is a technologically-advanced hospital within a healing environment, designed to transform the patient care experience.
