Goshen Care Center Alzheimer’s Unit admits first cohort of residents

TORRINGTON, Wyo. (July 30, 2009) - After six years of work by the Goshen County Joint Powers Board, the new Alzheimer’s Unit at Goshen Care Center has not only become a reality, but has now admitted the first group of residents.

“We currently have twelve wonderful residents.  The staff is getting to know every one of them as they come in.  The residents that we have admitted are doing great and enjoying their new home,” says Mary Howe, RN Coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Unit.  “The second cohort of admissions will come as soon as everyone is settled in and adjusted.   The staff is doing an amazing job, I’m really proud of them.”

The new secure wing is designed for dementia and Alzheimer’s patients and will be home for up to 28 residents.  The wing is an addition to Goshen Care Center, which houses 75 residents.  Goshen Care Center is now licensed for 103 beds.  In addition to the opening of the Alzheimer’s Unit, the staff is utilizing a newly designed admission process for Goshen Care Center residents.  Staff and family are working together to make the transition a positive time.  The resident’s first day is being looked at as a welcome home celebration.

Natalie Korell, Goshen Care Center Administrator says, “We have great, dedicated staff working throughout Goshen Care Center and we are so excited to have our new wing open to serve the regional need of our dementia patients.”
