PHOENIX (Jan. 19, 2009) – Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, one of Arizona’s largest hospitals, is also one of the nation’s best hospitals to work for, according to a national nursing publication.

Nursing Professionals magazine announced today that Banner Good Samaritan has been named as one of 2009's “Top 100 Hospitals to Work For” in the nation.

“We are grateful and proud of this recognition from Nursing Professionals,” said Colleen Hallberg, chief nursing officer at Banner Good Samaritan. “While awards like this and our hospital’s Magnet status let other nurses know the commitment Banner makes to our nursing staff, our 1,200 employed nurses will also tell you that Banner Good Samaritan is the type of hospital where nurses believe the work they do is making a difference in their patients' lives. This recognition is another strong indication that our efforts to create a great experience for our nurses, and all our employees, are working.”

Nursing Professionals surveyed 25,000 randomly selected hospital nurses throughout the country measuring their job satisfaction. Some of the sample questions were:

  • How well does your hospital manage personal training and development?
  • Is your hospital a family-friendly employer?
  • Does your hospital offer flexible working arrangements?
  • Does your hospital promote equality and diversity in your nursing workforce?
  • How strong is the nursing voice within your hospital?

“Greater awareness of the crucial role of nurses and the expanded opportunities they have today in patient care, research and training will be very helpful in encouraging more people to enter this profession,” says Donna Anderson, Nursing Professionals senior vice president of Marketing & Business Development, Eastern Region.
