Banner Boswell and Banner Thunderbird host dance event Oct. 24

SUN CITY, Ariz. (Oct. 13, 2009) – Banner Boswell and Banner Thunderbird medical centers invite Northwest Valley residents to kick up their heels to hip hop or sashay Latin style at a free family event on Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Rio Vista Recreation Center, 8866-A W. Thunderbird Road in Peoria.

The event starts at 8:30 a.m. with free blood pressure screenings, as part of Banner’s Heart Healthy campaign. At 9:30 a.m., Jeffery Pakula, MD, a Banner cardiologist, will give a lecture on the importance of heart health followed by dance demonstrations from The Phoenix Mercury Dance Squad and a Zumba instructor.

After the demonstrations, participants can opt to take a Zumba class, which is a Latin-style dance workout, or learn some hip-hop steps from The Phoenix Mercury Dance Squad. Additionally, Massage Envy will provide free 15-minute chair massages and Naked Juice will provide juice samples.

“The health benefits of dance are incredible and include stress reduction, increased energy, and improved strength,” according to Dr. Jeffrey Pakula, a cardiologist on the medical staff at Banner Boswell and Banner Thunderbird medical centers. “Dancing is a fun workout that also has the heart-healthy benefits of an aerobic exercise.”

The event is free and open to the public. To register, please call 602-230-CARE or visit www.bannerhealth.com, keyword: heart.
