Banner Boswell honors Volunteers of the Month

SUN CITY, Ariz. (July 8, 2009) – The Volunteer Services department at Banner Boswell Medical Center has selected Art Newman as the June Volunteer of the Month and Beverly Preppernau for the month of July.

Newman drives a Courtesy Cart in Banner Boswell’s south parking lot. Driving since June 2004, he has accumulated more than 3,600 volunteer hours. Newman also trains new volunteer drivers.  “Art is a dedicated volunteer, has an awesome sense of humor and infectious laugh,” said Julianne Mudric, director of Banner Boswell Medical Center Volunteer Services. “He has become friends with many of Banner’s employees and has even been invited to a few weddings!”

Preppernau volunteers in the Rehabilitation/Physical Therapy Services department. A volunteer since December 1986, she has contributed more than 5,400 hours. “Bev is a committed, hard working volunteer, rarely missing a day in the Rehab department,” said Mudric. “When patients arrive in the waiting room, they can’t help but have a great day after being greeted by Bev’s warm and infectious smile.”

Banner Boswell boasts 1,400 active volunteers, from age 13 (junior volunteer program) to 102. On average, there are 100-150 volunteers in the hospital each day. In 2008, volunteers worked 168,000 hours. To learn more about volunteering at Banner Boswell, please call (623) 876-5387.
