Banner Health names Rhonda Anderson, RN, CEO of Cardon Children's Medical Center

MESA, Ariz. (Dec. 16, 2009) -- Banner Health has named Rhonda Anderson, RN, a health care executive with decades of leadership experience, to the position of chief executive officer of Cardon Children’s Medical Center.

Anderson, who has most recently served as Banner Health’s pediatric service line administrator, assumes the Cardon Children’s CEO position immediately. She was chosen for the position after an extensive national search.

“The appointment of Rhonda Anderson as CEO solidifies Banner Health’s commitment to the growth and development of Cardon Children’s Medical Center as Arizona’s newest children’s medical center,” said Rebecca Kuhn, president of the Arizona East region of Banner Health. “Cardon Children’s has grown to the point that it requires the appointment of a chief executive officer, and Rhonda is the perfect choice for this role.”

Todd S. Werner has most recently served in the dual capacity as CEO of both Cardon Children’s and Banner Desert Medical Center. Werner will continue in his role as the CEO of Banner Desert, allowing Werner and Anderson to focus on their respective medical centers, while collaborating on areas of mutual interest.

“It has been my pleasure to serve as CEO of both Cardon Children’s and Banner Desert,” said Werner. “However, the time has come for Cardon Children’s to have its own CEO as the medical center continues its growth and development. In Rhonda Anderson, we’ve found the right candidate to lead that endeavor. Her passion for the care of children is palpable, and this passion for making a difference in the lives of children, along with her extensive knowledge and experience, makes her very well suited for this job.”

Anderson, in her role as pediatric service line administrator, played an integral role in the planning, development and construction of the new home for Cardon Children’s Medical Center. Patients, physicians, nurses and staff moved in to the new multi-million dollar facility on Nov. 2, ushering in a new era of pediatric service for non profit Banner Health.  Anderson previously served as pediatric administrator of Cardon Children’s, in addition to roles as chief nursing officer, senior administrator and chief operating officer at Banner Desert, and as senior administrator at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center. She has also served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Hartford Hospital and vice president of the Hartford Physician Hospital Organization in Harford, Conn. Anderson is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and the American College of Healthcare Executives, as well as a member of the Board of the American Hospital Association.
