Banner Health names Schock new McKee Medical Center CEO

Marilyn Schock

LOVELAND, Colo. (Dec. 7, 2009) – Marilyn Schock, former associate administrator at McKee Medical Center, will now serve as the hospital’s chief executive officer.

Banner Health Western Region President Jim Ferando announced today that Schock, the interim CEO, assumes the permanent position effective immediately.

Schock comes to the position with more than 23 years of increasing leadership roles at Banner Health. She began her career in 1986 as a staff occupational therapist at McKee Medical Center. She served in various roles in the Rehabilitation Services department including as director of Rehab Services. She later served as the executive director of Managed Care for many years before returning to McKee in 2005 as the associate administrator.

She worked with former CEO Rick Sutton to lead McKee to receive Banner Health’s Best of the Best award in 2008. Also during that year, she stepped in as interim CEO for Banner Health’s 25-bed critical access facility, Community Hospital in Torrington, Wyo., for five months.

For the past 14 months, Schock has served as the associate administrator for North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley – a 398-bed hospital also operated by Banner Health. McKee Medical Center has 132 beds.

Schock has remained active in the Loveland community since she served as associate administrator for McKee. She is on the Loveland Chamber of Commerce board of directors and will be the chair in 2010.
Schock replaces former CEO Christopher Cornue who resigned in October to move back to Chicago for personal reasons.

Ferando said Banner Health leaders reviewed internal applications to find the best candidate based on the health system’s commitment to develop leaders from within its own ranks.

“In all categories, Marilyn was deemed the top candidate and this assessment was further validated by the outpouring of feedback that we received from many McKee stakeholders including employees, physicians and board members who are in support of her candidacy,” he said. “We are confident that she is the right choice to lead this organization and reaffirms our commitment to growing our own leaders.”
