Baywood doctor honored as Medical Director of the Year

MESA, Ariz. (June 4, 2009) – Frank Benes, D.O.,  has been recognized by TeamHealth as Medical Director of the Year for the Western region. Dr. Benes is medical director at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa.

TeamHealth is the nation’s larges provider of emergency medicine staffing and management services. Dr. Benes was selected from among emergency department medical directors in nine states.

Dr. Benes was commended for demonstrating exceptional leadership in the development and transition to a new $38.5 million Emergency department that will accept patients this fall. The new Emergency department will feature 54 private patient rooms complete with bedside computers for electronic charting and a host of guest amenities including flat-screen televisions.

His service has been instrumental in building relationships to improve the environment of the emergency department and relationships within the hospital and the community. He also has enhanced the operations in the department by implementing a new patient flow model, resulting in reduced waiting times and an improved experience for patients.  As the leader of the department, Dr. Benes has maintained a complete group of physician and mid-level provider staff with no turnover in staffing during his tenure.

Dr. Benes joined the emergency department at Banner Baywood Medical Center in 2007. He brings more than 20 years experience to Banner Baywood and the community, including recent experience with Boswell Hospital and Del E. Webb Hospital in Sun City, Ariz. For more than 15 years, Dr. Benes had served as medical director, division chief, and residency director for emergency medicine with Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa. His extensive leadership experience includes serving on committees for medical ethics, quality and credentials, and disaster preparedness, as well as serving on the board of directors for Tri-State Trauma and as a member of the regional medical directors’ advisory committee.

A native of Erie, he completed his residency at Delaware Valley Medical Center in Langhorne, Pa. Dr. Benes is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians and received his doctor of osteopathy from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. He began his medical career at Indian Health Service at the Gallup Indian Medical Center.
