Dick Smith named interim CEO of Banner Churchill

Dick Smith

FALLON, Nev. (Feb. 16, 2009) -- Jim Ferando, Banner Health Western Region president, has announced that Richard (Dick) Smith has been named interim chief executive officer of Banner Churchill Community Hospital, effective Monday, Feb. 16.

He replaces Rex Walk, who resigned last week to be closer to his family. Walk will remain with Banner Health as a rural healthcare consultant based in Kansas.

This will be Smith’s third appointment as an interim CEO for Banner Health Western Region hospitals. He most recently served as CEO for Community Hospital in Torrington, Wyo. Prior to that, he was interim CEO at Banner Lassen Medical Center in Susanville, Calif.

“Dick is an experienced health care leader who has been a valuable asset to Banner Health and our Western Region facilities,” Ferando said. “He has displayed excellent leadership in helping us complete our CEO searches in both Torrington and Susanville. I am confident he will help Banner Churchill navigate through this transition period.”

A search for a permanent CEO at Banner Churchill is under way.
