Loveland Community Health Fair on track for record participation

LOVELAND, Colo. (April 14, 2009) – More than 1,615 individuals had their blood drawn in preparation for the Loveland Community Health Fair,  setting a record for participation in the annual event. The Loveland Community Health Fair is April 25 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McKee Conference and Wellness Center.

In 2008, more than 1,400 people participated in the blood screenings with the Loveland Community Health Fair, the highest number of participants to date.

People who had their blood drawn earlier this month will be able to pick up results at the fair. If you haven’t had a blood draw appointment, but are interested in doing so, please call (970) 635-4181.

Participants have the options of a blood chemistry screening for $30, complete blood count (CBC) blood screening for $15, prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood screening for $25, a take-home colorectal kit for $5 and a High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP) blood screening for $15. This blood screening is a new test that can help assess the risk of heart attack and stroke.

During the health fair, participants may pick up their lab results, enjoy educational booths, receive health counseling and referrals and participate in a number of health-related screenings including, but not limited to screenings for asthma, bone density, memory, foot/ankle, hearing/vision, glaucoma, lung function and skin cancer as well as pediatric screenings.

The health fair is not a substitute for a thorough physical examination and assessment by your physician. Individuals who plan to attend should work with their personal physician to reduce modifiable risk factors determined through the event. Also, medications should not be altered before or after the health fair unless you’ve been advised to do so by your physician.

Sponsors of the annual event include City of Loveland, Larimer County Medical Society, Loveland Chamber of Commerce, Loveland Daily Reporter-Herald, Mountain States Tent and Awning and McKee Medical Center.
