McKee Medical Center highlights National Healthcare Decisions Day
LOVELAND, Colo. (April 2, 2009) – McKee Medical Center will join other national, state and community organizations in a massive effort to highlight the importance of advance health care decision-making – an effort that has culminated in the formal designation of April 16, 2009, as National Healthcare Decisions Day.
As a participant, McKee will provide information and tools for the public to use when talking about their health care wishes with family, friends and health care providers. Included will be information about executing written advance directives (health care power of attorney and living will) in accordance with Colorado laws. Resources are available at www.bannerhealth.com keyword: Advance Directives.
On Thursday, April 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m., McKee Medical Center social workers and representatives from the Seasons Club will welcome the public to stop in to talk about advance care planning and advance directive forms. They will be available in the Hewlett Packard Room at the McKee Conference and Wellness Center, 2000 N. Boise Ave. The event is free and no appointments are needed.
“As a result of National Healthcare Decisions Day, many more people in our community can be expected to have thoughtful conversations about their healthcare decisions and complete reliable advance directives to make their wishes known,” said Linda Davidson, Manager of Patient and Community Services at McKee. “Fewer families and health care providers will have to struggle with making difficult health care decisions in the absence of guidance from the patient, and health care providers and facilities will be better equipped to honor patient wishes when the time comes to do so.”
