Mystery Diagnosis Filmed at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center

SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. (April 3, 2009) -- Carly Eykhout from Peoria, Ariz., lived with excruciating pain for seven years and no one knew the cause, until she arrived at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center's Emergency department where Curtis Henderson, MD, was able to figure out what was going on.

Now, Eykhout's story will be the focus of a Mystery Diagnosis show on the Discovery Health channel. The show, which is expected to air April 6, will feature the story of how Henderson was able to help her with her pain.

Henderson,  with confirmation of Gordon Haugland, MD, in the Medical Imaging department, diagnosed intersusseption (a blockage in her intestine) as the cause of her problems. Marco Canulla, MD, performed surgery to correct the problem.

Eykhout was so impressed with the care she received at Banner Del E.Webb and so relieved that her medical mystery was solved that she decided to write to the producers of Mystery Diagnosis.

"I am so grateful to everyone at Banner Del E. Webb for the care I recieved, I wanted to tell the world," Eykhout said.

She was not alone in thinking her story was interesting and unique. The producers sent a film crew to Banner Del E. Webb in December 2008 and shot a reenactment of her experiences for the show.

Her story has a happy ending along with relief of her excruciating pain. After years of weight loss and failed attempts of trying to have a child, Eykhout gained weight and was able to get pregnant with her first child shortly after surgery.

Now, she is expecting her second child. Like her first, she is choosing The Nesting Place Birthing Suites at Banner Del E. Webb for the birth of her new arrival sometime in the fall.
