Page, Ariz. (Nov. 3, 2009) – Melisa Serventi, Registered Nurse at Page Hospital, was honored with the Paul L. Singer award for community service during a ceremony at Banner Health in Phoenix this week.

Serventi was one of four recipients of the Singer Award and was among 89 Banner Health employees being recognized for their contributions to the community through Banner Health's Community Service Awards program. The Paul L. Singer Award is named for the late Paul L. Singer, MD, a former chief of staff at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix who exemplified a commitment to community service.

Serventi was chosen because of her outstanding service to the Page community. For several years, she has volunteered her time working with various groups, particularly the youth. She helps coordinate and teaches programs at Page High School and Middle School, such as the Drop-out Prevention Program and the Life Skills Class. Serventi is also very dedicated to the Girl Scouts and works hard to teach her troupe the importance of volunteering. Her troupe volunteers to help at many local events, such as C.A.S.T. for Kids and the Relay for Life. Serventi also volunteers her time teaching C.P.R. and first aid for a Hunter Safety class.

Singer Award recipients are given a certificate and trophy, along with monetary awards for $250 that goes toward a charity of choice and a personal check for $250. Serventi says she will donate the first $250 toward purchasing materials and supplies for the Drop-out Prevention Program and Life Skills classes. She said she will also donate her personal check to the Girl Scouts.
