Community Hospital improves quality of care with hospitalist program

TORRINGTON, Wyo. (Dec. 17, 2009) - Imagine your perfect stay at the hospital.  Is it having a physician who visits you multiple times a day?  Is it having a doctor who is easily accessible whenever you need them?  Imagine your perfect visit to see your physician in their office.  Would it be without the interruptions that occur when your physician gets called to the hospital?

Community Hospital is excited to be able to improve the quality of care as they begin a new hospitalist program on Jan.1.  In the rural health care setting, it is essential to provide the highest level of efficiency, productivity, quality improvement for clinical excellence and increased access to health care.  In order to achieve these goals, both the medical staff and administration at Community Hospital have identified a need to move the care plan towards a modified hospitalist model.  The implementation of the hospitalist model will provide benefits to the physicians, the patients and residents, to other programs within the hospital and our community.

The hospitalist program will improve the relationships with visiting physicians and surgeons.  Having a physician in the hospital that is always available allows post operative patients and more complex care patients to stay local for their follow-up care.  The program will also allow the physician to better manage and provide improved services to swing bed and acute needs that occur for long term care residents.  The program also increases job satisfaction for present physicians and can help recruit new physicians to the area.

There are many benefits to having a hospitalist provide exclusive care to patients in the hospital.  The hospitalist is one of the regular Banner Medical Clinic physicians and will be attending to only the patients in the hospital for one week at a time.  They provide a high level of one-on-one care during a hospital stay and are easily accessible to the hospital staff, the patient, and the patient’s family members.  This allows the physicians in the clinic to focus exclusively on those visiting them at their office with fewer delays and interruptions.  Hospitalists provide a personal link between you and your primary physician by ensuring that your doctor is informed and involved in your hospital treatment.
