Banner Del E. Webb celebrates World Breastfeeding Week

SUN CITY WEST (July 15, 2009) – Members of the Banner Del E. Webb Women's Health Education Department will be assisting women and their babies to live well by learning more about  breastfeeding from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, and Thursday, Aug. 6.

The educators will be at Banner Northwest Valley OB/GYN, 14418 W. Meeker Blvd., and Clinica Adelante, 14300 W. Granite Valley Drive, both in Sun City West, plus Advanced Care for Women, 14239 W. Bell Road, in Surprise. This free event is being offered to the community in observance of World Breastfeeding Week. 

"Breastfeeding is a way to ensure the best possible health outcomes for baby and mother," said Gina Herrera, manager of Banner Del E. Webb’s Women's Health Education department. "We're going to provide mothers with the information and support they need to be successful."

Lactation specialists from Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center will be available to answer questions and provide assistance. Lactation professionals help with pre- and post-natal care, provide information for families to make educated decisions, and assist with breastfeeding difficulties that arise. Other women’s health information will be available from community education specialists who will also be available to answer questions and provide assistance.

New Beginnings Boutique, a service of the Louisa Kellam Center for Women's Health at Banner Del E. Webb, will provide breastfeeding product demonstrations and free give-a-ways. These include:

• Breastpump demonstrations
• Breastfeeding class information
• Prize drawings

World Breastfeeding Week (Aug. 1 through 7) is an annual global event to protect, promote and support breastfeeding which the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action coordinates.
