Banner Baywood, Banner Ironwood name 2 nursing leaders

 

MESA, Ariz. (March 2, 2010) – Banner Baywood Medical Center and Banner Ironwood Medical Center have named new nursing leaders to lead their respective campuses.

Banner Baywood Medical Center is pleased to welcome Arlene Gimbel, RN, MNA as its new chief nursing officer. Arlene has most recently served as the CEO of Select Specialty Hospitals at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center and Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn. Her prior experience includes CEO and COO of Paradise Valley Hospital, nurse leadership positions with Community Hospital Medical Center, Scripps Memorial Hospital and Alvarado Hospital Medical Center. She has a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing administration..

“Arlene’s rich experience in nursing and hospital operations will be a valuable asset to Banner Baywood,” said Don Evans, CEO of Banner Baywood Medical Center. “We anticipate that her leadership skills will take us far as we continue our mission of providing premiere adult care.”

Arlene will begin her duties on Monday, March 22.

Banner Ironwood Medical Center is pleased to announce that Cathy Townsend, RN, MSN-L has accepted the chief nursing officer position. Cathy is currently the director of nursing in the Women’s and Infants Services department at Banner Baywood Medical Center. She has been a nurse for nearly 30 years, and has held positions in oncology, obstetrics and medical surgical areas. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix and her master’s degree in nursing from Grand Canyon University.

“Cathy is a forward-thinking nursing leader,” said Deb Krmpotic, CEO of Banner Ironwood Medical Center. “She has the ability to see both the broader vision for nursing as well as dive into the details of running a hospital. Cathy’s talents as a leader will be crucial to Banner Ironwood’s mission of opening a hospital that not only serves its patients but its community.”

Cathy will begin her duties on Monday, March 29 and office temporarily at the Banner Corporate Office.

Banner Baywood Medical Center is a 340-bed facility known for its world-class programs in stroke care, oncology, women’s health, orthopedics and surgical technologies. The facility opened in 1984 and serves the growing East Valley communities of Mesa, Gilbert, Apache Junction, Queen Creek, Fountain Hills and areas of northeastern Pinal County. In 2009, the medical center expanded with a new, $38.5 million emergency department with 58 patient rooms. Banner Baywood Medical Center employs more than 1,500 health care professionals and support staff, and has approximately 500 volunteers. The facility boasts a medical staff of more than 800 physicians, including primary care and specialty physicians. Banner Baywood is part of Banner Health, Arizona’s largest health care provider and second largest private employer.

ABOUT BANNER IRONWOOD MEDICAL CENTER
Banner Ironwood Medical Center is scheduled to open Nov. 1, 2010. It is located south of Combs Road on Gantzel Road, adjacent to the Town of Queen Creek. It will have 36 beds, a full service Emergency room, obstetrics, four operating suites and supporting diagnostic services in its first phase. Banner Ironwood is built to expand quickly with community growth. The first patient tower can accommodate up to 86 beds when fully equipped. In total, more than 500 beds and supporting health services could be built on the 80-acre site.
