Banner Boswell hosts seminar on peripheral artery disease
SUN CITY, Ariz. (Aug. 26, 2010) – Banner's Put Your Heart in the Right Place seminar series presents P.A.D.: Are You a Risk Taker? Reservations can be made by calling (602) 230-CARE (2273).
Banner Boswell Medical Center will offer a free seminar on Peripheral Arterial Disease, also known as P.A.D., from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, in Memorial Hall at Banner Boswell’s Support Services Building, 13180 N. 103rd Drive, Sun City.
P.A.D. is a common yet serious disease that occurs when extra cholesterol and fat circulating in the blood collects on the walls of the arteries. Those with P.A.D. are up to seven times at higher risk for heart attack and stroke.
“People often dismiss symptoms, such as fatigue, poor circulation and leg pain or discomfort during activity. They think it is just a sign that they are getting older,” said A. T. Khawaja, MD, cardiologist with Banner Arizona Medical Clinic. “P.A.D. can be treated with lifestyle changes, medicines and surgical procedures, if needed. Since people with PAD are at high risk for heart attack and stroke they must take charge of controlling those risk factors related to cardiovascular disease.”
To learn more, join Dr. Khawaja for an informative discussion on diagnosis and treatment options.
