Banner Boswell launches food drive for Banner Olive Branch Senior Center

SUN CITY, Ariz. (Dec. 1, 2010) – Banner Boswell Medical Center invites the public to participate in a holiday food drive this month to support Banner Olive Branch Senior Center’s community pantry.

Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the hospital, located at 10401 W. Thunderbird Blvd. in Sun City, from Monday, Dec. 6, through Thursday, Dec. 23 at the following bin locations:

Items in high need include canned vegetables, fruits, pastas, soup and cereal. Non-food items, such as paper products and toilet paper, also are welcome. The items will be used to support Banner Olive Branch Senior Center’s pantry program, which is sustained by donations from the community and an important supplement to the congregate and home-delivery meal program.

“Banner Olive Branch operates the only drive-up, take-out meal program for seniors in the country,” said Ivy Shirley, director of Banner Olive Branch Senior Center. “Each year, our staff and volunteers prepare over 65,000 meals and deliver more than 30,000 meals to homebound seniors. None of this would be possible without the support of our community.”

Banner Olive Branch Senior Center has been serving the Sun Cities and surrounding communities for more than 20 years. In addition to the pantry and home-delivered meal programs, the senior center offers more than 20 programs and support services, including daily congregate lunches, health and wellness classes and a Senior Employment Placement Program. The senior center is a Medicare benefits check-up site and houses a satellite office for the Arizona Attorney General.
