Banner Lassen offers nerve conduction testing

SUSANVILLE, Calif. (June 29, 2010) -- Suffering from pain, tingling, weakness, or numbness? These may be symptoms caused by certain nerve conditions.

If your physician determines that you need a nerve conduction study to evaluate the cause of your symptoms Banner Lassen Medical Center is here to help.

A nerve conduction study is a non-invasive study that allows your physician to evaluate the health of specific nerve fibers.

Your physician may want you to get this test if you may be suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome, radiculopathy/brachial plexopathy, polyneuropathy diabetic and non-diabetic, radiating back pain, suspected spinal stenosis, peroneal neuropathy, tarsal tunnel syndrome and more.

The procedure involves delivering a mild electric pulse at one point on a nerve and measuring the response at another point.

At Banner Lassen, a trained staff member will perform your nerve conduction study. Your skin will be cleaned with a skin-prep pad then a special biosensor with a conductive gel that allows small signals from your nerve to be detected will be placed on your skin and connected to the testing device.

The procedure is short, lasting 20 minutes or less and involves slight electrical stimulations that cause short, mild, pulsing sensations. The test is harmless and most patients who have had the test with our new system have described it as painless.
