Banner Olive Branch introduces Senior Discussion Group

SUN CITY, Ariz. (June 28, 2010) – Banner Olive Branch Senior Center is launching a monthly Senior Discussion Group for area residents to discuss a variety of topics affecting seniors in Sun City, including health care, insurance management, community transportation and veteran’s affairs.

“This new discussion group will not only provide information to our local seniors, but tangible and doable solutions, as well as peer and professional support,” said Ivy Shirley, director of Banner Olive Branch Senior Center. “The format will be very interactive, non-partisan and will include guest speakers from an array of industries. The talk-show format also will encourage support of new programs and services to help seniors enjoy their golden years.”

An ice cream social kicks off the first meeting at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 15. The group will discuss what it’s like to be a senior citizen in Sun City and the challenges and benefits of being a senior in today’s world. Attendees are asked to share what they believe is their legacy and what history will document as their contributions to the “Greatest Generation.”

Jerry Iannacci, former Homeland Security advisor and government consultant, will be the guest facilitator of the lecture series. Iannacci is an internationally recognized and published expert in financial crimes, safety and legal issues. Iannacci, a Glendale resident, is retired and now volunteers his time sharing his expertise and giving back to the community.

“Supporting seniors is an important part of helping one’s community and is a clear recognition of what this amazing generation has contributed to make America so great of a country,” Iannacci said. “Being an advocate for seniors and understanding their concerns and contributions is a way of understanding American history. It was people, not events, that made history and we as a community need to celebrate that contribution.”

Banner Olive Branch Senior Center is located at 11250 N. 107th Ave. in Sun City. Please call (623) 974-6797 to reserve your place for this event.
