CardioVascular Institute of North Colorado plans Heart Month events

 

GREELEY, Colo.  (Jan. 14, 2010) — In celebration of National Heart Month, the CardioVascular Institute of North Colorado invites you to participate in upcoming events at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley and McKee Medical Center in Loveland.

  • Tuesday, Feb. 2
    Heart Matters: It’s All About Electricity and Plumbing
    6-8 p.m. at North Colorado Medical Center, 1801 16th St., Greeley.
    Tour the CardioVascular Institute, enjoy heart healthy cooking demonstrations and investigate the inner workings of the heart with our new 3D echocardiogram. Call (970) 392-2222 for reservations. Free to the public.

    National Wear Red Day: Wear red to raise awareness for women’s heart health.
     
  • Tuesday, Feb. 9
    What is Heart Failure Anyway?

    3:30-5 p.m., McKee Conference and Wellness Center, 2000 N. Boise, Ave., Loveland
    Brian Lyle, MD, cardiologist with the CardioVascular Institute, will talk about what makes up heart failure.
     
  • Thursday, Feb. 11
    Joe Piscatella presents Eating Healthy in a Doubleburger.Com World
    6-7:30 p.m. at the University of Northern Colorado Ballroom
    Joe Piscatella is a heart disease survivor and nationally known speaker.

  • Tuesday, Feb. 16
    McKee Cardiovascular Services open house.
    2-6 p.m. at McKee Medical Center, 2000 N. Boise Ave., Loveland
    In honor of National Heart Month, McKee invites the public to an open house. Up to 40 people will receive free electrocardiograms (others will be charged $16) to use as baseline heart health information. Each guest will receive a pocket-sized card in the mail that includes their baseline EKG information and health history. Please call (970) 203-6555 for more information and to schedule an appointment.

Guests also can tour the nuclear medicine department, the cardiac catheterization lab and the medical imaging area for McKee’s new 64-slice CT scanner that gives lower doses of radiation during procedures.

  • Thursday, Feb. 18
    Cardiologist Brian Lyle, M.D., at Dinner with a Cardiologist – Cholesterol: The good, the bad and the greasy!

    5:30-7:30 p.m. at McKee Conference Center, 2000 Boise Ave., Loveland
    Enjoy a heart-healthy dinner and learn how to manage your cholesterol. Cost is $12. Call (970) 203-6555 for information or to make a reservation. 
     
  • Saturday, Feb. 27
    2010 Day of Dance Health Fair

    9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Greeley Family FunPlex, 1501 65th Ave., Greeley
    So you don’t dance? Then bring your friends and family to learn simple ways to stay health. Participate in health screenings; talk to health practitioners; enjoy cooking exhibitions and music; watch dance demonstrations and surprise competitions. You also might learn a few dance steps.

The event is free to community members. Fees are associated with optional blood screenings available through North Colorado Medical Center on Feb. 18, 19, 22, 23 and 25 from 7 to 9 a.m. Results can be obtained at Day of Dance.
