Cardon Children's welcomes Ultramarathoner who ran from San Diego

MESA, Ariz. (Jan. 13, 2010)  – Mike Sheehy, a ultramarthoner who is running 500 miles from San Diego to Phoenix to participate in the Rock-n-Roll Marathon Jan. 17 in Tempe, will visit the Pediatric Oncology unit at Cardon Children’s Medical Center in Mesa in support of his goal to increase awareness of leukemia through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Sheehy, a long-distance runner for some years, organized the Cures Rock! Ultra Run Tour, a 500-mile run organized to build awareness and funding for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s through the organization’s Team in Training program. According to the team web site, www.curesrocktour.com, Mike and his team have run more than 30 miles per day on their route from San Diego to Phoenix. Sunday, Mike and the team will end their run by participating in the P.F. Chang’s Rock-n-Roll Marathon in Tempe.

“We are excited to honor Mike and his team for their commitment to building awareness of Leukemia,” said Rhonda Anderson, chief executive officer of Cardon Children’s Medical Center. “Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20 which is why we, as caregivers, want to support Mike and his run.”
