East Morgan County Hosptial Foundation Awards Continuing Medical Education Scholarship

BRUSH, Colo. (Oct. 21, 2010) — The East Morgan County Hospital (EMCH) Foundation announced the 2010 Scholarship award to a student in the Brush area who is continuing her medical education.

Shira Leal, a radiology technician at EMCH, has received a $500 scholarship to advance her medical training.

“The East Morgan County Foundation Board is pleased to award this scholarship each year to an East Morgan County resident who is committed to providing quality health care within the District,” said Suzanna Spears, EMCH Foundation president.

Leal will be attending Aims Community College, where she’ll work towards a certificate degree in the mammography program. This one- semester program requires students to attend on a full-time basis.

Upon completion of the mammography certificate degree, Leal will begin classes at Webber State for ultrasound.

Her educational goal is to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Ultrasound. Leal is a full-time student, works part time as a radiology tech and is a single mother. She plans to remain in rural health care. Her fellow staff members regard her as ambitious, responsible and a dependable team player.

Established in 2000, the $500 Foundation Scholarship is awarded annually to one individual employed in the health care community of the Brush area with a desire to continue his/or her healthcare education at an accredited institution.
