Free seminar in Peoria June 12 teaches shoppers how to be food label savvy

 

SUN CITY, Ariz. (May 21, 2010) – Learn the tricks to reading food labels and the real story behind health claims in nutritional marketing on Saturday, June 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Rio Vista Recreation Center in Peoria, 8866-A W. Thunderbird Road, inside Rio Vista Community Park. Pre-register by calling (623) 773-8600.

“Understanding Food Labels & Health Claims in Nutritional Marketing” will be presented by Shannon Parnett, RD, Clinical Nutrition Senior Manager at Banner Boswell Medical Center. Attendees will learn how to read food labels and the difference in terms used to describe nutrients in food such as "light," "low fat" and "good source of.”

“Marketing tactics used by many food companies to promote their products may confuse and mislead consumers,” Parnett said. “Understanding how to read food labels will help you make healthier choices for you and your family at the grocery store.”

Banner Boswell Medical Center and Rio Vista Recreation Center are partners in offering free health education seminars each month and a variety of healthy events throughout the year.
