Free seminar in Peoria March 3 highlights Healthy Meals for 1 or 2

SUN CITY, Ariz. (Feb. 17, 2010) – Learn how to cook healthy meals for one or two at a free seminar on Wednesday, March 3 at 10 a.m. at Rio Vista Recreation Center in Peoria, 8866-A W. Thunderbird Road, inside Rio Vista Community Park. Pre-register by calling (623) 773-8600.

“Healthy Meals for One or Two” will be presented by John Howell, a registered dietitian at Banner Boswell Medical Center. Attendees will learn about proper portion sizes, shopping, healthy cooking and seasoning techniques, and scaling down larger recipes to work for one or two people. Additionally, Howell will discuss food safety for leftovers, as well as proper storage and reheating.

“If you’re used to cooking for a houseful, it may be tempting to resort to microwave meals, take out or drive through,” Howell said. “Eating a healthy, balanced diet is one of the best weapons in the fight against a variety of diseases, and it’s easier than you think.”

Banner Boswell Medical Center and Rio Vista Recreation Center are partners in offering free health education seminars each month and a variety of healthy events throughout the year.
