McKee presents “Know Your Stats” prostate education and screening event
LOVELAND, Colo. (Sept. 16, 2010) – Three local physicians hope to raise awareness of the importance of prostate cancer screening guidelines and treatment options available at the “Know Your Stats” event Wednesday, Sept. 22 at McKee Medical Center.
The event is part of a national prostate cancer screening campaign and a partnership between the National Football League and the American Urological Association Foundation with local hospital participation.
Speakers include:
- Ross McFarland, MD, hematologist/oncologist, who will talk about why prostate cancer screenings are so important to your health
- Benjamin Girdler, MD, urologist, who will talk about surgical options for prostate cancer
- Elizabeth Ceilley, MD, radiation oncologist, who will discuss radiation oncology options for treatment of prostate cancer.
The event, at the McKee Conference and Wellness Center, begins at 5:30 p.m. For people interested in getting a screening for the prostate specific antigen (PSA), McKee Wellness Services staff members will offer blood draws for $25 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. There is no charge for the physician presentations. Wellness staff hope to have results of the screenings available by the end of the event or will mail results to individuals.
A PSA screening is recommended for men age 40 or older and for men 35 to 40 with a family history of prostate cancer. No fasting is required for the blood draw.
