NCMC plans fair for people interested in weight-loss surgery
GREELEY, Colo. (Aug. 2, 2010) — People who want to learn more about weight loss surgery or who have already had bariatric surgery should plan to attend the Bariatric Health Fair on Monday, Aug. 9 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.
The event, sponsored by the NCMC Bariatric Surgery Center, will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in NCMC Auditorium A and B.
At the fair, attendees can visit with representatives from the makers of the REALIZE™ and LAP BAND® , the adjustable bands used in bariatric surgeries. Staff from cardiac rehab, the sleep lab and the NCMC pharmacy will be present to answer questions about their services. Also, attendees will have the opportunity to meet surgeon, Dr. Michael Johnell.
For people considering bariatric surgery, experts from the clinic, including the dietitian and clinical psychologist will be on hand to provide information and answer questions. They also will conduct intake appointments if someone wants to schedule an initial consult or talk about emotional eating.
Guests can visit the NCMC pharmacy table to learn about products available for the bariatric patient and can also sample protein or vitamin shakes and powders.
In 2005, NCMC received the industry’s highest distinction, the American Society of Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. Patients travel from throughout Colorado and many surrounding states to work with the team at NCMC.
Michael Johnell, M.D. is renowned for his expertise in minimally invasive surgery. He has been a general surgeon since 1985 and has performed thousands of laparoscopic procedures during his career. In 2001, Dr. Johnell established the bariatric surgery program at North Colorado Medical Center. His practice is dedicated to weight loss surgery only and recently began specializing in performing the adjustable gastric banding procedures because of the lower risk and excellent results that are achieved.
