SUN CITY, Ariz. (March 22, 2010) – Banner Boswell Medical Center invites the community to “Living with Parkinson’s,” a free seminar on Tuesday, April 13 from 9 to 10 a.m. in the hospital’s Memorial Hall, 13180 N. 103rd Dr. in Sun City. Holly Shill, MD, neurologist and movement disorders specialist at Banner Sun Health Research Institute's Cleo Roberts Center for Clinical Research, will discuss the symptoms, diagnosis, risk factors and causes of Parkinson’s disease, as well as current Parkinson’s medications and how they work.

“Parkinson's disease is a complex disorder that involves a proper diagnosis, medical management and support,” said Dr. Shill. “I am excited to share news about new medications, therapy and devices in the pipeline that will help us achieve the goal of achieving good outcomes.”

April is Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month. Parkinson’s disease is a neurological disorder that interferes with speech and motor function, making it difficult for those with the disease to function normally. It’s a degenerative disease, which means its symptoms, such as tremors, impaired coordination and diminished speech get worse over time. There is currently no cure for the more than 1.5 million Americans who suffer from the disease.
