EMCH now offers low dose radiation for medical imaging
BRUSH (Dec. 16, 2010) – Ask your doctor! Is my CT scan a low-dose radiation machine? East Morgan County Hospital provides the latest technology in low dose CT imaging. EMCH now offers an advanced system that helps doctors determine health problems while lowering radiation doses to patients by up to 40 percent.
Our new Aquilion® 64 from Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. decreases radiation while showing superior quality images within the body. Using a series of x-rays beams, the CT scanner creates cross-sectional images. A computer reconstructs these “slices” to produce a 3-D image. The result is a series of pictures with greater detail than traditional x-rays; and better information means better a decision from your doctor.
“The addition of our Toshiba Aquilion 64 improves the quality of services EMCH offers our community members,” said Jay Cook, M.D., radiologist at East Morgan County Hospital. “It better helps us diagnose health problems and also lowers radiation exposure to the patient.
“This is especially beneficial for children and young adults who are more at risk to harm from high radiation exposures,” Dr. Cook said.
The Aquilion 64 also provides new in-depth brain and cardiac scans that make these tests more reliable, he added. We can produce incredibly clear images for biopsies, fluoroscopy, and other very specialized services. This technology can perform virtual colonoscopies and you may be a candidate for this procedure. Ask your health care provider.
Computed tomography technology (CT) combines X-rays and computers to produce detailed, cross sectional images of internal structures of the body. It is the exam of choice when people are ill or injured, or when a physician suspects a medical problem that is not easily found with a physical examination.
