North Colorado Medical Center stages Turkey Trot
GREELEY, Colo. (Nov. 18, 2010) — This year North Colorado Medical Center celebrates the 13th anniversary of the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot presented by Noble Energy.
The 5K and Gobbler Trek race, which attracted 2,850 participants in 2009, benefits the NCMC Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and Cancer Institute and the patients they serve.
Starting time for the 5k is 9 a.m. The 2K Gobbler Trek starts at 9:15 a.m. Parking for the events is available in the parking garage and parking lots at NCMC. The race begins on the east side of the parking garage and features a new, flatter course this year.
The honorary chairwoman this year is Darlin Jean Krause. She has been a Cardiac Rehab patient since 1994 and more recently has also been a Cancer Institute patient.
Darlin credits the Cardiac Rehab and Adult Fitness programs with delaying her bypass surgery by several years. When asked about serving as the Honorary Chair she said she truly considers it an honor and is happy to do anything she can to give back to NCMC for the amazing care she’s received over the years.
“The support services I received at both Cardiac Rehab and the Cancer Institute were so important to me. I wouldn’t have been able to go through this alone and thanks to the support I received at NCMC I didn’t have to,” she said.
Darlin was also an original member of the Turkey Trot committee and served on that committee for three years.
Turkey Trot statistics:
- More than 250 patients have benefited from money raised by the race over the past six years.
- Last year, the Turkey Trot and Gobbler Trek raised more than $35,000.
