North Colorado Medical Center volunteers award scholarships
GREELEY, Colo. (Aug. 17, 2010) —North Colorado Medical Center volunteers recently awarded $21,000 in scholarships to high school and college students who have made a valuable contribution to the community through their volunteer service at the hospital.
Five local students were recognized with scholarships for their achievements in academics, their dedication to volunteer work, and their passion for pursing their future goals. The scholarship presentations were made at the annual volunteer appreciation event.
In addition to honoring the scholarship recipients, two special volunteers were honored: Al Fried and Linnea Cunningham. This year’s scholarship awards were named in memory of these NCMC volunteers and will help their legacy live on.
Angelena Adamski, Karolyn Martin and Elsa Reza won the Al Fried scholarship. Angelena will attend the University of Colorado. Karolyn will continue her education to become a physician’s assistant at Methodist University in North Carolina. Elsa attends the University of Northern Colorado.
Dan Negron and Kristin Freeman were awarded the Linnea Cunningham scholarship. Dan will be a junior at UNC, and Kristin will attend Colorado State University.
To be eligible for an NCMC volunteer scholarship, individuals must give at least 100 hours of volunteer service. Many of this year’s winners donated in excess of this requirement while excelling in school and extra-curricular activities.
